ABOUT OUR FISH

We specialize in Bluegill and Hybrid Bluegill.  Each year, we select the biggest and best fish to be used as brood stock.  We have been doing this for 33 years.  The fish, which I purchased as my original brood stock, were also selectively chosen for many years.  This has produced a fish that easily adapts to commercial feed, but also still has the capability of flourishing on the natural food available in your pond.  They grow bigger and faster than normal fish.

Our Hybrid Bluegills are produced from a cross between our male bluegills and a female green sunfish.  This cross produces a 95% male and 5% female offspring.  They are not sterile, but because of the low percentage of females, their reproduction is minimal.  If you have regular Bluegills in your pond, they will cross back with them, which produces a very nice fish also.  Some of the males, which we use, weigh close to 2 lbs.  This ensures that our Hybrids grow to a very large size in a short period.

If you have a pond which is over populated with Crappies, or other small fish, we have a Bluegill cross (it is not a hybrid) that is a very aggressive fish.  It eats most all of the baby fish before they can grow up and add to the problem of over population.  I have a limited amount of these fish.

Our Large Mouth Bass have always been fed commercial feed in the ponds that they have been spawned in, because their density is too great for natural food to be enough for them.  So, through the generations, they have learned to go on feed naturally, which helps them grow bigger and faster.

Our Catfish come from domesticated stock and are trained to feed when you purchase them.

One of the most important fish that we recommend is the Fathead Minnow.  Consider the food chain, which starts with the one celled plants and animals, goes up to the Fathead Minnow and on through your Bluegills, Bass and Catfish.  If you leave out the important link of minnows, don't be surprised if you have a lot of stunted Bluegills.  Everything eats the minnows, and if in turn, they are eaten, that just helps the fish further on up the food chain.  We recommend 5 gal.  per acre for a new pond stocking.  They help your fish get off to a good start,  but they will all be eaten in 2 years.  At that time, you can decide whether to restock the minnow or let you Bluegill offspring be the primary source of food (I recommend you restock).  Our Fathead Minnows are clean (meaning they have no garbage fish along with them)_.  They only grow to approximately 3" long and never big enough to bother you when you are fishing.  We sell our minnows by the gallon, and there is approximately 7 lbs. to the gallon.

Our White Amur (grass carp) are 8"-11" long when purchased for stocking.  We recommend 12 per acre.  At this rate, they do a very nice job of cleaning the vegetation from you pond.

Our Comets (large goldfish) are primarily for garden ponds.  They are various colors with large fantails at an affordable price.

We can also provide you with Trout, Walleyes, Northern Pike, Small Mouth Bass, Red-ear Sunfish, and most any other species you may want.
